Saginaw Children's Zoo welcomes rare African penguin chick

SAGINAW (WJRT) (2/22/2019) - The Saginaw Children's Zoo is showing off a rare African penguin chick that was years in the making.

Mom Petey and father Robben birthed the chick on Jan. 20. DNA testing revealed the chick is a girl.

She has tripled in size over the past month thanks to the doting care of her parents. Zookeepers are revealing her to the public on Friday for the first time.

Zoo staff members spent years learning how to breed the penguins and properly care for a chick before Petey and Robben became parents.
