Salvation Army misses Red Kettle goal by about $50,000

FLINT (WJRT) (1/3/2018) - The ringing may be over, but with the goal still not met the Salvation Army of Genesee County is hoping donations will continue to come in.

"We didn't quite meet our goal as far as the kettle is concerned, so it's concerning," said Major Randy Hellstrom. "But we still have mail appeal, we're hoping that many people will respond to that appeal, many companies and businesses do that."

While they do fund raise year-round, during the holiday season is when they seen the most amount of money come in to support the community. Unfortunately this year, they missed the mark.

"The goal was about $450,000 in the kettles and we fell about $50,000 short in the kettles," says Hellstrom.

While this campaign is over, they're still seeking donations for the 2019 budget, all of the money will stay in the county.

"The money that we raise here stays here, it goes to help next door neighbors and people who live in our city," Hellstrom said.

Anyone who would like to donate can call the Salvation Army or text SEASON to 91999.
