FRANKENMUTH (WJRT) - (12/05/18) - The Frankenmuth School District is launching a school bus safety campaign in response to an uptick in school bus stop offenses nationally and locally.
"It's very serious. We've already had one incident where a crossing guard has been hit. I usually sit in the mornings near crossing zones and I've seen several times - close calls," said school resource officer Tim Smith.
Smith says the crossing guard was hit about a month ago outside the high school. He's also noticed other infractions.
"What we're seeing also is a lot of people driving through school zones on the phone, you know, using cell phone," Smith said. "I think it all comes back to speed. Speed and time. Everyone is always late for everything and they're always in a hurry."
Discussions for the billboards are in the works but there has yet to be a date finalized for when you may start to see them around town.
