OWOSSO (WJRT) (10/22/2018) - Skeletal remains of two fetuses were found in a vacant Owosso funeral home on Monday.

The former Mowen Funeral Home at 409 W. Main St. has been closed for more than two years and an asbestos removal crew was inside working to prepare it for demolition when the remains were located.

Investigators with the Owosso Police Department say the remains were located in a box inside a second floor apartment. Markings on the box indicate it is more than 50 years old, but the exact age of the remains was not known.

The Shiawassee County Medical Examiner's Office conducted a preliminary review of the remains Monday and determined both were born around 20 weeks of gestation, before a viable age to sustain life.

Authorities were still working to identify the fetuses.

The Sparrow Hospital Medical Examiner in Lansing was assisting with the investigation.
