MID-MICHIGAN (WJRT) - (01/12/2018) - It was a slow and cautious commute for drivers Friday morning on slick and dangerous roads.

I-75 from Flint to Saginaw County was slick and icy, especially between the Bridgeport and Mt. Morris exits.

The Genesee County 911 Communications Center reported more than 20 active crash scenes at the peak of the morning commute. Numerous crashes also were reported in Saginaw County.

Traffic on all area freeways was moving much slower than normal.

More than 160 schools closed Friday morning due to the hazardous road conditions. Dozens of senior centers and medical clinics were closed, along with some evenings events being canceled.

According to the ABC12 weather team, most of the snowfall should wind down by the early afternoon. However, roads likely will remain slick for the evening commute.

A thin layer of ice coated the roads before the snow fell. Once road crews clear the snow, the ice layer will be left until salt melts it.
