Starlite Coney Island & Diner’s owners open second location in Burton

BURTON (WJRT) (04/22/2019) - Starlite Coney Island & Diner on Center Road has been open since 1966.

Its brand new location just opened on Saturday, giving their traditional décor a modern edge. It will staff about 40 employees.

The new eatery is located inside the former 3,200 square-foot Boston Market restaurant on Court Street across from the Courtland Center Mall.

"We always wanted to grow our business,” said co-owner Jason Hester. "We’ve been around a long time. We appreciate people spending their hard earned food dollars at our first store. We know they have lots of choices. We're looking forward to serving them over here.”

Customers can expect an upgraded version of food items.

“We kind of upped our game with salads. We're going a little bit healthier. We have vegetarian, the impossible burger,” Hester said. "Our chicken program is going to be really the biggest difference here. It's kind of a Chick-Fil-A model.”

The inside of the building is nothing like the original Starlite.

“This is completely different. It's like the old school '50s and '60s retro luncheonette -- the soft colors. It's a beautiful build-out,” Hester said.

Hester said Starlite on Center Road is always busy. The new one is expected is to be a little calmer.

"This one is going to have less of the hustle and bustle. I feel like Store One can be overwhelming," he said. "This will be your casual dining and have a nice meal that's pretty peaceful."

The second location hasn't even been open for more than three days and customers are already heading in for breakfast.

"It's going to get a lot of business, the atmosphere, it looks really pretty inside,” said Velesa Cole said, who stopped by the new Starlite on Monday morning for breakfast.

Hester said he is hoping the newest location can bring as much joy to the community as the first one has already done for decades.

"We're going to continue to be strong in this area for more generations,” he said.

The new Starlight on East Court Street is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day.
