SWARTZ CREEK (WJRT) (6/13/2018) - A Swartz Creek man faced a judge Wednesday for arraignment on a murder charge after allegedly shooting his 91-year-old step-father over the weekend.

William Moore, 61, is charged with open murder, carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, two counts of resisting arrest causing injury and five counts of carrying a firearm while committing a felony.

Moore is accused of shooting Richard Adams at his residence in the 7000 block of Miller Road.

Police say Moore showed up at the residence around the same time his mother was leaving. Concerned about Moore's violent tendencies, his mother called 911 and waited at the nearby Kroger for police to arrive.

While she was waiting for police, Moore allegedly shot Adams to death and then located his mother at Kroger. Police arrived and tried to box in Moore's vehicle at the Kroger, but he escaped and led police on a short chase to his residence on Bellwood Avenue in Flint Township.

Moore is accused of attempting to pull out a gun on officers and engaging in a scuffle while they tried to arrest him.

Moore remained in the Genesee County Jail while awaiting a preliminary hearing in the case. He faces up to life in prison with no chance for parole if convicted of the murder charge.
