(6/21/2018) - Two Corunna educators are on a passionate mission involving books, travel, and literacy.

Nellie Reed Elementary School Kindergarten Teacher Tracy Foster and Principal Shannon Toma wrote and published "Benson's Adventures in Michigan" and "Benson's Seasonal Adventures in Michigan."

The books were created through trips with students throughout the state, spanning 11,000 miles.

"It's just so important for students to get out to see what the world has to offer. And so many times we take for granite all the different locations Michigan has," Foster said.

The books are filled with fun and interesting facts about state landmarks, vacation spots and postcards from the colorful and curious turtle, Benson said.

Foster and Toma are also on a mission to give every Michigan student a copy of their two books. They gave out more than 4,000 last year, creating the nonprofit Benson's Literacy Foundation.

The authors are also inspired by learning outside the classroom.

Next week, they're taking 85 students to Mac Wood's Dune Rides, Silver Lake State Park, Little Sable Point Lighthouse and Lake Michigan.
