Teens accused in I-75 rock throwing case allegedly also threw tire, then got McDonald's
(10/23/2017) - The group of five Clio teenagers charged with murder for allegedly throwing large rocks onto I-75 last week didn't stop there, according to authorities.
During a press conference Monday, Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell and Prosecutor David Leyton outlined the events leading up to the death of 32-year-old Kenneth White of Mt. Morris Township.
The teens, who all attend Clio High School, allegedly threw a tire off another overpass before moving to the Dodge Road overpass. Once there, they threw more than a dozen large rocks onto passing vehicles on southbound I-75.
At least five of the rocks hit their targets and damaged vehicles. One of those rocks crashed through the windshield on the van in which White was riding.
White suffered massive head and facial trauma, leading to his death.
Afterward, the five teens went to an area McDonald's restaurant to eat.
"All of us can relate to driving down I-75, which is why this case is so personal to many of us," Pickell said.
The suspects, who are age 17 and younger, are being charged as adults with one count each of second degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder, six felony charges each of malicious destruction of property and two other lesser charges.
ABC12 will not release their identities and mugshots until they are arraigned Tuesday morning.
Meanwhile, White's family and friends gathered Monday evening in his memory to say goodbye at O'Guinn Funeral Home in Clio, which donated its services as the family copes with his unexpected death.
A GoFundMe account created to help the family with memorial expenses will now instead be put toward an education fund for White's young son.
