World Expo of Beer draws thousands of people, 81 breweries to Frankenmuth
(05/17/2019) - The World Expo of Beer kicks off in Frankenmuth on Friday until Saturday night. Organizers said they are excited for a huge turnout.
"We've been gradually increasing year after year, we're expecting two days of over 10,000 people,” said Brent Weiss said, the chairman of the expo.
There will be 81 breweries with over 400 beers. There is also plenty of food and music to enjoy.
"This is like a giant party, you walk around, people are very personable, like to talk, tell you what they like, tell you what they don't like,” Weiss said.
The entire event is put on by Frankenmuth Jaycees, a volunteer organization for young professionals.
"I've been a part of this event for over eight years so it's awesome to see what 40 people can do in 8 months and have 13 hours of fun,” said James Boyd, a member on the expo’s committee.
The event not only serves up big fun, but money raised supports local charities as well. The $10 ticket goes right back out into the community.
"We have donated on the average about $70,000 a year so we've built things like splash parks, we've donated to other civic groups that help us out,” Weiss said.
The World Expo of Beer starts runs from 5 to 10 Friday and 3 to 10 Saturday. Children and strollers are not allowed.
Free shuttles to and from hotels in Frankenmuth and Birch Run are provided. All attendees must bring photo identification that shows proof of age.
