FLINT (WJRT) - (04/16/2019) - Tuesday is a big day for Crim runners. Organizers are expecting hundreds of people to attend the meet-up. Members of the CrimFit Training program will meet at the U of M-Flint Rec Center from 4:30pm-6:30pm.
"This is a great opportunity for anyone who is brand new to running and walking or maybe hasn't done any kind of running and walking in a long time," Andy Younger said. He is the race director.
If someone feels out-of-shape or just cannot keep up with fast runners, the meeting will be the opportunity to connect with people on their same level. This is how they are placed into groups.
"You end up surrounded by people who you all have this built-in group of friends and a support network."
Although running and walking are the core exercises, organizers say cross training is helpful too.
"We have a wonderful partnership with the U of M-Flint Rec Center and as a member of the training program, you actually get free passes to the U of M Rec center, you can take a number of their classes."
Younger said the groups are one of the most important aspects of the training program, but over the years he has learned that people build life-long relationships even after the race is over.
"People tend to stick together and work-out all throughout the year."
You can sign-up for the training program at the meet-up. Everyone is expected to run at least one mile.
