SAGINAW COUNTY (WJRT) - (01/22/2019) -- The Saginaw Township police chief says an officer was shot early Tuesday morning during a traffic stop.

Investigators say it happened around 2:15 a.m. on Tittabawassee Road near Bay Road. Police believe as the officer made contact with the driver, the officer was shot in the facial area.

Investigators say the officer was able to run back to his car and call for help. Other police arrived, and rushed him to the hospital.

A manhunt was under way for 29-year-old Joshua Rosebush of Vassar, who police say is responsible for the shooting. He previously was wanted for questioning in connection with a Jan. 3 string of vehicle thefts and thefts from vehicles in Tuscola County.

Police say Rosebush drove off in a white Ford F-250 pickup truck with license plate number DB60703 and AIS Construction decals on the side. He is believed to be armed and dangerous.

Investigators say the officer is at the hospital and his condition has stabilized. The officer who was shot is a 16-year veteran of the department.
