Travel agents busy as Hurricane Irma takes aim

FRANKENMUTH (WJRT) - (09/05/17) - As residents brace Hurricane Irma, those with travel plans to the region are also scrambling to make other arrangements as needed.

ABC12 stopped by a travel agency in Frankenmuth for tips on what cruise lines and airlines are doing to prepare for anticipated disruptions.

"For those going on a cruise this weekend, absolutely get in touch with travel agents to find out if their itinerary has been impacted, rerouted or canceled altogether," says John Schmitt of Frankenmuth Travel Service/Grand Hill Travel. "If you made your own arrangements you're going to have to contact the airlines directly and keep watching their website for constant updates."

Delta Airlines is already allowing passengers planning to travel to a number of cities, including Fort Lauderdale, Key West, and Fort Myers to change their tickets at no charge.

Southwest Airlines is doing the same thing, even including Orlando on their travel advisory list.
