(9/12/2017) - The trial for a Corunna woman accused of locking her sister in a closet for years got under way Tuesday morning.
Proceedings began with jury selection in the case against Candy Lawson, who is charged with abuse, false imprisonment and embezzlement.
Police say Lawson held her special needs sister in a closet for 7 years in her Corunna home. The woman was just 74 pounds when police rescued her in 2015.
Lawson's brother also died in her care about seven years ago when they were living in Kentucky. The Michigan Court of Appeals has ruled that information can be used in this trial.
