LANSING (WJRT) - (03/26/19) - A quest for cheaper gas brings big luck to a mid-Michigan man who went out of his way to fuel up.
Randy Richardson of Millington has stepped forward to claim a $1 million Mega Millions prize from the Michigan Lottery headquarters in Lansing after buying a ticket for Friday's drawing that matched all five white balls.
"My wife and I ate dinner in Millington and as we were leaving I noticed I needed to get gas," Richardson explained. "I told my wife I saw gas earlier in the day for 22-cents cheaper in Clio, so that's where we went."
He may not have saved much in gas, but now he won't have to worry about that after scoring big on the ticket he bought when cashing out at the Beacon and Bridge Market on East Vienna Road.
"I checked my ticket Saturday afternoon and saw I matched five numbers," said Richardson. "I told my wife: 'You won't believe this, but we got five white balls and won $1 million!'"
The Michigan Lottery office says the 56-year-old plans to help family members, buy a new Harley, and save for his retirement later this year.
He also says he'll keep searching for the cheapest gas.
