(1/17/2018) - A U.S. Marine with Mid-Michigan ties was stabbed to death at Camp Pendleton overnight.

Ethan Barclay-Weberpal was attacked by another Marine on the sprawling base just north of San Diego, which is home to 42,000 active duty personnel.

ABC12's sister station in Madison, Wisconsin, reported the U.S. Marine Corps took the suspect into custody after the incident. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service has been placed in charge of the case.

Barclay-Weberpal was a private first class in the Marine Corps after graduating from Almont High School in Lapeer County last May. He also attended schools in Janesville and Whitewater, Wisconsin, according to NBC15.
