VASSAR (WJRT) (9/18/2018) - Students at Vassar Senior High School got a short day on Tuesday after a suspicious odor led to an evacuation.
Sixth through 12th grade students were evacuated from the building around 8:30 a.m. and sent to Central Elementary School while Consumers Energy sent a crew to investigate.
The source of the odor was not readily apparent and nobody reported any illnesses.
After a couple hours at the elementary school, administrators decided to dismiss high school students for the day. The students got bag lunches around 11:30 a.m. and buses came to pick them up around 12:30 p.m.
Only sixth through 12th graders are being sent home early. Elementary students are planning to stay for a full day.
Vassar Public Schools says all athletic games and practices will continue as scheduled Tuesday. Buses taking teams to away games will leave from Central Elementary.
