CLIO (WJRT) (7/11/2018) - A contractor working for the city of Clio hit a water main on Wednesday, triggering a boil water advisory for part of the city.
The incident caused the water main to break and reduced pressure in the system. The boil water advisory is a precaution, as the pressure drop could have allowed bacteria into the system.
The boil water advisory is in effect for residents on Alexander Street, Palmer Street and parts of Field Road.
The city's contractor was digging a trench to install a new water main when the break occurred. Crews were able to shut off the leak and repair the damage quickly.
However, the state requires a boil water advisory whenever pressure decreases in the system. The advisory will remain in place for at least 24 hours until tests show acceptable levels of bacteria in the water.
Clio officials will release more information when the advisory is lifted.
