GRAND BLANC (WJRT) - (03/08/17) - "Women 2 Women Michigan" magazine was actually a retirement project for Debra Collins, but she says it took off.
Collins attributes her success to the many women who have shared their stories throughout the magazine's pages.
"What we have found is every woman has a story and the story doesn't see a color," she said. 'We're all sharing in the same goals."
Collins tells ABC12 News "Women 2 Women Michigan" is simply to inspire women and she says that inspiration comes from giving women a voice.
"We've come through tough economic times, they have been through personal relationships, loss of children, often times, the stories are just unbelievable. And oftentimes, another woman can see themselves through these stories, through the eyes of another and find hope and inspiration and that's really what's at the core of it," Collins said.
Because the team of women behind it know their readers are busy, the magazine is a compilation of short segments.
"They're very short, so that if you're sitting at a doctor's office, you're at your gym, you're at a salon, that you're in a position that you could actually gain some information," Collins said.
Collins says when she started the magazine seven years ago, she had no idea she'd soon be publishing more than 5,000 copies per issue.
"I think the biggest thing that I've learned or I would encourage women is mastery of your mind," Collins said. "Because when you start to lose confidence and you start to second guess, you know, stay focused on your mission, stay focused on what you're trying to accomplish."
The magazine can be found in more than 400 locations throughout Genesee County. You can also get a full copy and some extra resources on their website. Just click the link in the 'Related Links' section of this story.
