FLINT (WJRT) - (05/12/16) - It’s a moment LeeAnne Walters will never forget. She and her family were driving home from a meeting at city hall – where she had brought in a bottle of brown water she had just taken from her kitchen tap. Members of the MDEQ had been there to answer the community’s questions. But she says they didn’t believe that water had come from her faucet.
Her teenage daughter’s hair was falling out in clumps, her twin sons, Gavin and Garrett, kept breaking out in rashes, and she had lost all of her eyelashes. Gavin had stopped growing and LeeAnne had stopped believing claims by the city and state that the water was safe.
“When we got in the car that night at left that meeting…we were talking…there’s all this physical evidence. People with bags of hair...people with bottles like this...rashes...significant physical evidence - it's not just our home - we realized we were not alone - how do we make them listen”
So, LeeAnne did what a mother does, she began searching for answers...for her children....for the city’s children. And you won’t believe what happened to her as she tried to expose the truth about Flint’s water. This brave Flint mother shares her story with Angie Hendershot in an interview you won’t want to miss.
