Fireworks spooking pets this Fourth of July

BURTON (WJRT) (07/05/16) - Fireworks are fun to watch but they can spook your pets!
Calls are flooding into the Humane Society this weekend for lost cats and dogs.

Lin Holmes, with the Humane Society of Genesee County, says they've been fielding dozens of calls from people who found pets and from people looking for missing pets.

She says it is one of the busiest times of year for them.

A popular lost pet Facebook page called "For the Love of Louie" is getting a new post every couple of minutes about missing dogs and cats from around the state.

Holmes has a couple of recommendations for pet owners. She says have a Microchip put in your pet so they can be scanned by animal control or the humane society.

When there are fireworks for any holiday, opt for a leash or dog run even if you trust your pet to go outside.

If you find a lost pet and bring it to the Humane Society of Genessee County, they hold it for 5 days then its up for adoption. But, if it has a microchip they hold it for 10 days.

You can always post on the "For the Love of Louie" Facebook page if you find a pet or if yours goes missing.
