Mayoral race in Flint becoming crowded

FLINT (WJRT) - (03/21/15) - The race to become Flint's next mayor is getting more crowded.

Dr. Karen Weaver announced her plan to run, Saturday afternoon.

She was joined by family, friends and other community members at Vernon Chapel AME Church to make it official.

Weaver says she is a life-long Flintstone, who is not going anywhere.

She's focused on two key issues.

"There's no trust, there's no faith. We've lost hope. And the other is the water. You know we're paying eight times the national average for water that we can't use," Weaver said.

More than a dozen people have joined Weaver.

That includes well-known names like current Mayor Dayne Walling and city councilors Wantwaz Davis and Eric Mays, just to name a few.

Those three candidates have websites or Facebook pages with more information.

The primary election is Aug. 4. From there, the top two candidates move on to the November election.
