Mid-Michigan cancer patients are able to utilize a new health care facility at MyMichigan Medical Center in Midland, putting all cancer services under one roof.

MIDLAND, Mich. (WJRT) - The ribbon is cut and now the real work can continue helping cancer patients at MyMichigan Health in Midland.

Cancer services are all under one roof at the James T. and Elsa U. Pardee Cancer Wellness Center. That alleviates multiple stops for cancer patients.

"Going to treatment in the infusion center in one place, radiation in another place and see their surgeon in a third place, said MyMichigan Chief of Oncology Dr. Melwyn Sequeira. "That's not conducive to patient centered care and it's what we didn't want happening."

Now the new four-story 115,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility will offer the latest screening, diagnostic and treatment technology for cancer patients. The facility includes a new infusion center and breast health reconstruction clinic.

"During the entire course of their treatment they need financial support, social support," said Sequeira.

Midland-area cancer patients will also get an upgrade to resources. There's nutrition counseling, social workers, radiation therapy and the comfort of area Cancer Care Services of Midland all in house.

"We were invited to move into thus beautiful cancer center rent free, so all the money that we're saving on rent each month can go right back to the community," said Midland Cancer Care Executive Director Julie Nunn.

It's all to provide top notch care to the people of Mid-Michigan.

So patients and their loved ones can focus on what matters most – their health and wellness.

The cancer program at MyMichigan is accredited with a commendation by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer and received the Accreditation for Program Excellence (APEx) from the American Society of Therapeutic Radiation Oncology.

In addition, the facility's Breast Health Program is accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons.
